Powers
Powers: Therianthropic Transformation - Nicolas has the ability to transform himself into a bestial creature, similar in appearance to something like a walking wolf or large cat. While transformed, Nicolas has enhanced speed, strength, and senses (mostly smell and sight). This is, however, at the cost of his willpower and sanity for the time being of his transformation.

Unlike werewolves of lore, Nicolas can change anytime. This usually occurs during instances of great stress, and the transformation is a very painful process. Even with all the benefits as a beast, Nicolas has absolutely no control and is only returned to his original form after all points of stress have disappeared - or worse yet, "eliminated".

With that, Nicolas seems to have grown in his ability to willing transform, but this is a hard process at best. This is due to the pain and his own lack of will to transform into the Beast. Nicolas has no clue yet as to how to maintain control when transformed.

Limits: As stated before, Nicolas has no control over his transformation and no control of himself while in the form of the beast. The process itself is painful, and after turning back into his regular self, Nicolas usually passes out from extreme exhaustion. Likewise, Nicolas is easily manipulated into turning on friends and family while transformed due to his animal mindset.

Appearance
Hair: Black, straight and just past the nose. Usually pushed to the side.
Eyes: Deep brown, but a golden yellow during transformation.
Height: 5'8" normally, but 6'4" during transformation.
Weight: Between 100-135 lbs.
Other: Nicolas is usually seen with his brown Davine backpack (since his clothes tend to become ripped and ruined after a transformation).
Celebrity Claim: Me, myself, and I (though I must say, I'm not much of a celebrity)

Personality
Personality: Nicolas is troubled at best, often anxious and worrying about his condition. Unaware of the fact that others with abilities exist, Nicolas often feels depressed and alone. He tries to back away from most confrontation, aware that his ability is uncontrollable and deadly, but if seriously provoked, Nicolas's weakness shines through and he will give in.

When comfortable, however, Nicolas displays instances of goofy humor and rare insight for a teenager. While obviously still a youth, Nicolas understands more than the typical sixteen year old. Aware of this, he makes more friends out of adults than other kids, preferring the company of "thinking people", as he likes to put it.

On the other hand, when Nicolas becomes a beast, no aspect of his personality seems to remain except for blind rage.

Strengths: Nicolas is known for his insight and philosophical ideas, having his world view widened by good friend Jon and his dealings with his condition. He also tends to be humorous when in good company and appreciates true friends, and Nicolas makes a strong point to try and avoid fighting the best he can. His pacifism has led him into refining his persuasion and negotiation skills.

Flaws: Because of his "condition", Nicolas is fearful and distrustful of people, and he tends to give into self-pity most of the time. He can also be seen as a coward sometimes because of his will to avoid confrontation. To his annoyance, "emo" and "pathetic" have become common terms to describe Nicolas's attitude, and when called out on his flaws, Nicolas is prone to lashing out - and with that, transformation.

History
Family: Timothy DeVault (father), Andrea Guzman (mother)

Other Significant People: Jon Barnett (youth group leader)

History: Nicolas was born to father Timothy DeVault and mother Andrea Guzman in Los Angeles, California. Soon after, divorced followed, and Nicolas found himself staying with his mother after Timothy moved away with his girlfriend to New York City. Because of his mom's status as a single mother, Nicolas often felt jealous of other children with their fathers still around.

While growing up, Nicolas faced issues with anxiety and depression, often accusing his mother of bringing him into a world of insignificance. This selfishness almost took its toll when Nicolas almost gave up, but dear friend and youth group leader Jon Barnett offered a willing and loving hand to Nicolas. With his good friend, Nicolas found hope in others and in life.

Despite growing away from the faith, Nicolas remained friends with Jon and often went to youth group just to see him. All turned around, though, when one night, while walking home from youth group, Nicolas and some of his friends were jumped and attacked by some members of the local high school football team. The group were picked out because of their association with their youth group, the Matchbox, which many kids in the area viewed as a congregation of faith-obsessed losers.

During the attack, Nicolas's ability finally surfaced. In his stress, he transformed into his bestial form and tore the bullies to shreds. However, in his uncontrolled retaliation, Nicolas ended up murdering his friends by accident. Ashamed, naked, and confused, Nicolas ran back home. His mother out, he packed a bag full of things and left.

After running away and wandering for days, Nicolas realized what he had to do and began to make his way towards the Big Apple. His reasons? To figure out what was happening to him. He knew that, somehow, his father would have answers.

Sample Roleplay
I'm starving. Nicolas rummaged through his backpack, trying to find the last granola bar. To everyone passing him by in the train station, he probably looked like some sort of troubled youth trying to make it on their own. It was a correct guess, and Nicolas had no qualms about hiding it.

A grin formed, and Nicolas said aloud to the granola bar, clenching it in his fists, "Found you, you little bastard." Hungrily, he ripped the wrapper off the bar and sunk his teeth in. A little dry and a little old, but food was food. With Nicolas being broke and on the run and all, he really couldn't complain. After all, it was peanut butter flavored.

"Look at the little runaway," a voice called out, and Nicolas felt frozen. The train station seemed to have emptied by now, and there was only a gang of vicious boys standing above, looking down at Nicolas. "Backpack, check. Granola, check." Nicolas gulped and looked down, trying to pay them the least attention he could in his silence. "Pussy attitude, check."

"Please leave me alone," Nicolas finally said, quietly and standing up. He pulled his backpack up to his shoulders and began to walk away, but the boys only continued to follow, hurling insults at him and trying their best to incite rage out of him. But I won't give in. They can tell me whatever the hell they want, but I'm not gonna-...

Cold tile. Nicolas had fallen to the ground, courtesy of a push from one of the boys. Their laughter was the only sound now, echoing loudly in Nicolas's ears, and soon enough, he felt the loss of his breath. Sweat erupted from his forehead, dropping in large beads to the floor as Nicolas gripped his fists and closed his eyes.

The Beast was waking up.

Hey Marc, welcome to Heroes the RPG! Overall, your application looks very good, but there are just a couple things you might want to have a look at.

I think you're missing a strength and a weakness. You'll need five of each. Maybe I just miscounted, but I can't see five there. You may want to consider highlighting the strengths within the paragraph, or putting them into a list.

Also, I'd like to see a little more detail regarding Nicolas' ability. What is the nature of his enhanced senses in his bestial form? Can he wilfully take on his beast shape, or is it brought about solely by stress or other situations out of his control?

And I'd like you to flesh out the personality a bit more. We need at least two substantial paragraphs. Basically, we just want to know that you've got a handle on who this character is.
