We don't like to joke around here.
So it should come as a given that we could, in no feasible form, release the Heroes News on April 1st. Because nothing would have been taken seriously. For April Fools does not create pranksters, it creates skeptics. Or skeptical pranksters. Asking repeatedly if you truly got the joke. This bastion of unhumourous, contemplative literature could not abide that mentality. So in our stone-cold sense we waited it out. You readers shall now know each letter is law. No mincing words, no silliness, no misconceptions. Then without much further ado.
Patootie. ;D
Plot Update
Rule #139: Mythology
The Staff want it clarified that they will not accept mythology in any form. Not in powers, history, or even eye colour. By the Great Site Domovoi, they swear to maintain a science-based board. So this means, despite it being Canon, the ability of Phoenix Mimicry has been banned. A complete end to myth and magic. I will stand before you and the optics of Al-Rashid if you doubt my honesty.
No more, 'It goez together becuz mythology' That style of thinking is an insult to the science this site was founded on, and results in a wholly inadequate representation of mythology anyway. As I may explain; sit down, this'll take a while.
No, you're gonna hear this. Salo having give a damn or not.
And that is why we should get rid of mythology. Because Staff would never shut me up otherwise. There's really only room to do this sort of in-depth analysis with science. Stick to science!
New Promise Land Wiki
Tales were told of an utopian wiki that did not take seven moons to load a page. Of a site that could hold our power descriptors and Cab's ego at the same time (one out of two ain't bad). I am of course referring to the new and improved Evolution Activated.
Our Wiki mods are working round the clock, and getting dizzy, trying to finalise the transition from our old Wetpaint wiki to this revised edition. You are of course allexpected welcome to join. Encouragements are also made to transfer pages from the old wiki. Though if you do so, please leave all Power Pages unaltered. Yes Blackness, that means no adding “also: omnipotence” to the Terrakinesis entry.
Or linking everything back to the Corailkinesis page. (Two's a meanie)

Established Member of the Month – Peanut Butter
Peanut Butter has arrived with a mixture of ambition and common sense. His powers are quaint and characters intriguing. He has also demonstrated a significant knowledge of riots, which leaves us imagining Peanut Butter, gelatin explosives, and a baseball bat.
^_^
Special of the Month – Faith
Moving away from mythology, we're finally encroaching on sci-fi territory. Faith held potential to be as bad-ass as RoboCop, as mysterious as Dr Claw, and as shiny as Cybermen. Plus she'd make a perfect housewife. Does the job of dishwasher, cooker, washing machine, and comes with an off switch. ;D She's so awesome, she's won this from beyond the grave (err, Rejected Aps).
There was a mention that people were voting for this character before she was even out the workshop, before she had threaded. While this may seem unfair, you have to imagine the voter's mentality at the time. They could vote for this character they hadn't seen in action, a character that may not live up to the expectations of her application; or they could chose someone else. But at the end of the day: you gotta have Faith.
Civilian of the Month – Phillip Cormac
Janey is getting to know uncertainty? I had no idea she was taking quantum mechanics. Phillip does seem to be a thrilling example of this principle. In layman's terms, the more precisely one property is measured, the less precisely the other can be controlled, determined, or known. He is obviously incapable of multi-tasking.
Thread of the Month – The Turning Point
When your own character can surprise you that marks a deeper understanding in the Player-OC bond nuclei. Or that your characters have been writing you writing them. Think about it. In a world were superpowers are local, terrorist attacks are frequent, and every fellow you meet transforms you as a person; wouldn't the Heroes characters want to just sit down and write about mundanity?
Normal, boring, lacklustre reality. To such people it must seem quite enticing. I'm sure Peter would love a family reunion that didn't end with predictions of Armageddon and ambitions of High-Office. So much so that he keeps changing the people he's writing about. It would explain why I gave generously to that Help Haiti fund a while back. Rene isn't above being bias.
So start writing in some character deaths, people. Get them before they can get you.
Plot of the Month – Riots in NYC
Nope. Summed up nicely.

April Fools!
Is what I would say now had this been yesterday. But being today I am more inclined to cry, 'April Showers' or perhaps 'Knickerbocker Glory'. That leaves you in the unfortunate situation of having to believe what you were told. I'm so sorry.
Phoenixes aren't real. Caboose's ego is still at large. I'm more than happy to flick your switch. Reality hurts, but is without a doubt so much more bizarre than fiction. Which is coincidentally another argument for why our OC characters would be writing about us - We're twice as unpredictable as Phillip Cormac.
((P.S. Did you know a baby Phoenix is called a worm?))

Plot Update
Tysche Industries is quickly becoming the name on everyone's lips as the founder and CEO of the mega-corporation, Destiny Tysche, has financially bailed out the devastated genetics engineering and research companies hit hard by the terrorist group dubbed "Nemesis". Calling the terrorism against these companies and the horrific attack on Washington's citizens "cowardly and evil", Ms. Tysche is considered a rising hero among Americans as she takes a public stand against these vicious acts.
President Rebecca Hudson has begun taking measures to allow local authorities more power in securing their cities against future attacks. While reversing the Patriot Act because it was un-Constitutional, President Hudson has ordered her Department of Homeland Security to strengthen local authorities with training and state of the art weaponry usually designated for the military. She believes if the local authorities are more prepared for attacks and the aftermath, things like the riots that took place in New York will be less likely. She had assured the nation that should they request aid from their government, it will be supplied, and assures citizens they are safer with their police force more weapon-ized, better trained and with improved technology to prevent future attacks and lawlessness.
The New York City riots continue, however, and despite the fact the explosion on the incoming cargo freighter named "The Shamrock" was proved to be an accident. Many citizens are still rioting, breaking curfews, and living in fear of a possible terrorist attack on their city. Law officials believe most of the riots are now caused by criminals rather than regular citizens, especially gangs using the opportunity to incite violence and cause public insecurity. Only a little more than a decade after 9/11, New Yorkers understand better than most the crippling affect an attack does to both humanity and their city. Unfortunately, fear seems to be the rule rather than the rally of support that the country provided after 9/11, and riots are feared especially on the West Coast where Nemesis threatened to attack next.
Nemesis itself has been silent since their last attack on a genetics research firm in California. Many wonder if this is the calm before the storm....

Phoenix Mimicry:
First off, the idea that self-levitation could be a by-product of the power. The phoenix could fly because it was a bird. Otherwise known as an ex-dinosaur (in pedantic circles). As all beings from the Class Aves, their flight is derived from a combination of light bones, feathered wings, as well as a unique digestive and respiratory system. It is hardly a mythological aspect.
Similar with an extended grace in sight. It's explained by science, not magic. A human eye weighs less than 1 percent of the weight of its head, whereas a starling's eye accounts for some 15 percent of head weight. To achieve these powers, given that they aren't mythological in nature (as in, a shrug isn't adequate explanation), the phoenix mimicking person would require major adjustments in body. Large eyes and more feathers than an average pillow.
Whereas some powers that could have been added have been ignored. The Ibong Adarna, which has many similarities to the phoenix, could turn beings into stone with its droppings. Why not grant a Special that power? Fossilise people with poo. It's more accurate than levitation.
The phoenix also did not live on conventional foods, but rather frankincense and odoriferous gums. This would have been a good power restriction.
Pyrokinesis is just wrong. The phoenix never demonstrates an ability to control fire. If it was Garuda Mimicry, that would be another story. Phoenixes, however, have a nortoriously hopeless track record with fire, i.e. it always kills them. The only documented time in their life that fire is used, is to cause death. That's not pyrokinesis, that's spontaneous combustion.
Ignoring the more popular notion that a phoenix gives birth to a new phoenix, rather than being reborn; spontaneous regeneration is also not an ability it possesses. Regeneration – sure. But there is nothing spontaneous about it. The phoenix always kills itself with fire. Doesn't get inventive and try a number of other suicide techniques, just fire. It can only regenerate in one certain circumstance – fire. Should an Atlantic bound Boeing 747 plough into Miss Phoenix tomorrow, it'll be extinct.
As for it's healing tears: that's fictional, not mythological. Harry Potter to be exact.
So we have established that the power of Phoenix Mimicry, to adhere to mythological guidelines, should include Spontaneous Combustion, Regeneration (from fire), Petrification (from excrement), and a need to sustain oneself on frankincense and odoriferous gums.
And that is why we should get rid of mythology. Because Staff would never shut me up otherwise. There's really only room to do this sort of in-depth analysis with science. Stick to science!

Established Member of the Month – Peanut Butter
“Wow! What enthusiasm! PB has thrown himself into the site with more gusto than a monkey in a market! He already has some interesting characters, lots of threads (two of which I'm lucky enough to be a part of) and has launched an ambitious and well timed plot which has got everyone hopping! His RPing is of high quality making it an absolute pleasure to write with him and he is a friendly face in the cbox who I am always happy to see. I fear I will never understand peanuts in a spreadable form but I am coming to love them!” - Amsy

“HER DIALOGUE IS ICECREAM COLOURED! Plus the rest. She's amazing. She has several threads going and already she's getting fighty, getting upgraded and cyborg-tastic which is completely legit. Can't wait to see more of her across the board. Good job Bezz.” - Letsy
Moving away from mythology, we're finally encroaching on sci-fi territory. Faith held potential to be as bad-ass as RoboCop, as mysterious as Dr Claw, and as shiny as Cybermen. Civilian of the Month – Phillip Cormac
“This man is so full of conflicting emotions he is both a joy to write with and a challenge. I never know which direction his emotions will take him. One moment Phillip is in hysterics by choices he has to make concerning Hogh's List the next he is calm and bordering on normal. Then he is thrown into jealousy over a mention of his ex-wife's dating life, tries to forget it and ends up foraging through her things. The guy is all over the place. Unpredictable! And I am really enjoying getting to know him and his instability.” - Janey
“There are more ambitious threads out there, yes. This thread has a very simple idea; "Noah and Syria fight each other, Jim intervenes as best as he can". Simple. Most threads with such a simple concept would just be nothing but action posts that have little to no real substance.
Not so here. Its no secret that I'm a huge fan of character driven stories and threads. What makes this thread stand out is the characters, their history together, and their feelings towards each other. Be it Jim respecting Noah, or confused about Syria, or Noah disapproving of Jim, or Syria losing her mind and becoming a feral beast, this thread just isn't your typical "action thread". Each post has meaning, each action filled with emotion and depth not usually seen in fight threads. Hypocrisy, Anger, Twue Wuv, Mawwage.
This is a thread that has forced me to look at each character in an entirely new light, making me feel more sympathetic towards Syria, a bit more put off by Noah and his attitudes, and legitimate surprise at my own character.” - Epic

Click of the Month – Jimi, Noah and Syria
“Watching (and writing how) each of these three interact has been extremely....interesting, lol. We have two people that want to kill the other, each for their own self-richeous reasons, and another that wants to do anything possible to keep the other two from tearing each other to pieces. Watching how they all manage each other, and how each one is made of more than one part, has been fantastic. Noah's dark side has surfaced, the cracks are finally showing in Syria's facade, and Jimi's being torn apart trying to decide which of those he cares about to side with. It's an impossible situation, and what'll be even more interesting is seeing how the three of them manage to end this confrontation in one piece.” - Freaky
Honestly. Can't leave these three alone in a Carnival for five minutes.
